Israeli soldiers beat teenager during arrest, family says

July 15, 2012

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli soldiers assaulted a teenager overnight Saturday while arresting him, his family told Ma'an.

Mahmoud al-Badan, 17, was arrested by Israeli forces from his home in Tuqu, south of Bethlehem, his father said.

Soldiers then took Mahmoud outside and closed the front door so the family could not see what was happening. Neighbors told the boy's father, Muhammad al-Badan, that the soldiers brutally beat the teenager before blindfolding and handcuffing him.

He was then taken to an unknown location, the witnesses said.

Muhammad al-Badan told Ma'an that after the incident there was a lot of blood on the ground outside the house.

He made a complaint about the soldiers to the Palestinian civil affairs office and called on human rights organizations to bring to justice the soldiers who assaulted his son.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said ten people had been arrested overnight for assisting in "terror activity," including one unnamed person in Tuqu.

Two other people were detained in Abu Dis, three in the Ramallah area and four in Jenin.
